Whether you clean your own turnovers or hand them off, having an explicit checklist matters more for short-term rentals than a typical home clean. A guest notices things a homeowner wouldn't, and a missed detail becomes a bad review instead of a mild annoyance.
Kitchen
- Wipe down all counters, backsplash, and cabinet fronts
- Clean inside the microwave and wipe the stovetop/oven exterior
- Empty and wipe down the fridge, checking for anything left behind by the last guest
- Wash, dry, and put away all dishes and cookware
- Empty the trash and replace liners; check under the sink for a full recycling bin
- Restock dish soap, sponge, and paper towels if you supply them
Bathrooms
- Scrub the toilet, tub/shower, and sink, including grout and corners
- Polish mirrors and fixtures
- Replace all towels and bath mats with fresh, unstained sets
- Restock toilet paper, soap, and any other guest amenities
- Check the shower drain and trash can for hair or leftover guest items
Bedrooms
- Strip and remake every bed with fresh linens, checking under the bed for anything left behind
- Fluff and check pillows and comforters for stains
- Dust surfaces, headboards, and blinds
- Vacuum under the bed and in closets
Living areas & general
- Vacuum and/or mop all floors
- Dust all surfaces, electronics, and light fixtures
- Check remote controls and light switches for grime
- Take out all trash, including any left outside on patios or balconies
- Reset the thermostat to your standard setting
- Do a final walkthrough with fresh eyes: smell the space, not just look at it
Before you leave
Take timestamped photos of each room once it's clean. It protects you if a guest later claims something was dirty, and if you're the one being hired, it's the easiest way to build trust with a new host fast. Host Wingman builds this into the job-completion flow automatically.
